Ingredients
For the apple filling
-
5 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
-
2 tbsp brown sugar
-
1 tsp ground cinnamon
-
1 tbsp lemon juice
-
½ tsp nutmeg
-
1 tbsp all-purpose flour
For the crumble topping
-
1 cup all-purpose flour
-
½ cup rolled oats
-
⅓ cup brown sugar
-
⅓ cup Zejd Extra Virgin Olive Oil
-
½ tsp ground cinnamon
-
A pinch of salt
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 180°C (350°F). Lightly grease a medium-sized baking dish with Zejd Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
2. Prepare the apples: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, nutmeg, and flour. Toss until evenly coated.
3. Prepare the crumble: In a separate bowl, mix the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Pour in Zejd Extra Virgin Olive Oil and stir with a fork until the mixture forms coarse, crumbly clusters.
4. Assemble: Spread the apple mixture evenly in the baking dish. Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples, covering the surface.
5. Bake: Place in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbling.
6. Serve: Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Zejd Tip
Using extra virgin olive oil instead of butter gives the crumble a delicate fruity note that pairs beautifully with the sweetness of baked apples and the warmth of cinnamon.
