Earth Day 2025: Sustainability at the Heart of Zejd’s EVOO Journey

As we celebrate Earth Day 2025, the call for collective action to protect our planet is louder than ever.

Sustainability touches every part of our daily lives—including the food we eat and the products we choose. At the heart of this conversation lies one of the Mediterranean’s most ancient treasures: olive oil—an enduring symbol of sustainability when produced with care and respect for the earth.

This year, the global spotlight is on reducing harm and restoring balance to our ecosystems. At Zejd, this mission isn’t reserved for just one day—it’s embedded in every drop of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) we produce. From the sun-soaked groves of North Lebanon to the bottles on your table, our story is rooted in the land, in tradition, and in a deep commitment to sustainability.

Deep-Rooted Relationship with the Land

Zejd was born from a simple belief: that the Lebanese terroir—especially the centuries-old olive groves of the Akkar region—holds the power to nourish both people and planet. Our trees grow in harmony with nature: no forced irrigation, no synthetic fertilizers. Just soil, sun, and the rhythm of the seasons.

We use dry farming techniques to conserve precious water resources, combined with either extensive or organic agricultural practices, depending on the terrain. We cultivate the native Souri olive variety—naturally resilient and well-adapted to our Mediterranean climate—requiring fewer inputs and thriving alongside local biodiversity. These trees are rooted in terraced hillsides that help preserve the soil and reduce erosion.

Time-Honored Craft, Modern Care

At Zejd, sustainability means merging ancestral know-how with mindful modernity—in the groves and beyond.

  • Low-Impact Harvesting

We harvest with the utmost care, preserving the olives unbruised, respecting the rhythm of the trees and their surrounding ecosystem, ensuring the land remains fertile for generations.

  • Energy Efficient Extraction

Our modern cold extraction system uses water-efficient technology, and runs on clean, renewable energy—delivering quality with minimal environmental impact.

  • Waste Becomes Resource

Nothing goes to waste: the oil nourishes, the pomace becomes biomass for heating or energy, and even the wastewater is treated and reused—closing the loop in every way.

  • Packaging with Purpose

Zejd EVOOs are bottled in recyclable glass then labeled and packed using eco-conscious materials, as we continuously explore new ways to reduce our environmental footprint.

  • Local, Traceable Origin

Ethical and transparent sourcing is at the core of what we do. We work directly with local farmers in North Lebanon, ensuring fair practices and full traceability from grove to bottle. Each product reflects the integrity of the land and the people who cultivate it.

Supporting Rural Communities

Our work is deeply connected to the well-being of our region. By investing in local labor, collaborating with smallholder farmers and family-owned estates, and keeping production rooted in the community, Zejd helps strengthen the rural economy of Akkar. We also preserve traditional knowledge and support a way of life that respects both people and nature. For us, sustainability is not just about protecting the environment —it’s about empowering the people who live and work in it.

This Earth Day, and every day, we remain committed to nurturing the land, uplifting our communities, and producing EVOOs that honor both heritage and the planet. Because caring for the earth begins with how we treat its gifts—one grove, one harvest, and one bottle at a time.

Your Role in the Journey

We invite you to join us on this journey of mindful consumption. Choose products that respect the earth, support local communities, and carry a story of sustainability. Every Zejd bottle you choose is a step toward a greener future.
