Hummus it up with a dollop of deliciousness and a swirl of Zejd extra virgin olive oil! Ready to dip, scoop, and savor on #HummusDay? Try out this super creamy and smooth hummus recipe.
• 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
• 1/4 cup tahini
• 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (about 1 large lemon)
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 clove garlic, minced
• 2 tablespoons Zejd Premium extra virgin olive oil
• Water (as needed)
• Optional toppings: drizzle of Zejd extra virgin olive oil, sprinkle of paprika, chopped parsley, or whole chickpeas
1. In a food processor, combine the drained and rinsed chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, ground cumin, minced garlic, and salt.
2. Process the mixture until it becomes a thick paste, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed to ensure all ingredients are well combined.
3. With the food processor running, slowly drizzle in the extra virgin olive oil until the hummus becomes smooth and creamy. If the hummus is too thick, you can add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
4. Taste the hummus and adjust seasoning if needed, adding more salt or lemon juice to taste.
5. Once the hummus reaches your desired consistency and flavor, transfer it to a serving bowl.
6. Garnish the hummus with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, and, as desired, a sprinkle of paprika, chopped parsley, or whole chickpeas.
7. Serve your homemade hummus with your favorite dippers such as pita bread, crackers, or fresh veggies.
8. This recipe makes about 1 1/2 cups of hummus. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
